East European University Tbilisi — MD (MBBS) Fees & Admission 2026

East European University (EEU) is a private, non-state university in Tbilisi, Georgia, authorized by the Ministry of Education in 2012, whose English-medium Medical Doctor (MD) programme is Georgia's equivalent of an MBBS: 6 academic years, 12 semesters and a minimum of 360 ECTS credits. Note one thing before you read on — EEU publishes two different annual tuition figures for this one programme on its own website, US$5,000 on its overseas fees page and US$6,000 on the programme page, so the fee has to be confirmed in writing. EEU is one of the few Georgian universities that names NEET explicitly: its admission list requires NEET results from MD applicants with Indian citizenship.

EEU states that it obtained authorization from the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia in 2012 and runs faculties of Healthcare Sciences, Law, Business and Engineering, and Humanities and Social Sciences across two Tbilisi campuses.

For international students the university offers the English-medium Medical Doctor (MD) programme and an English-medium Pharmacy programme, alongside English-taught business programmes.

Why choose East European University?

What East European University publishes about its MD programme:

  • Accredited MD Programme: EEU's own programme page records the Medical Doctor Educational Programme (ENG) with Programme Status: Accredited, a minimum of 360 ECTS credits and English as the language of instruction.
  • Recognition — Verify In Writing: Course structure, recognition and admission requirements are set by the university and by the regulator in its own country, and should be confirmed in writing for your intake year before you apply.
  • Tuition Includes Health Insurance: EEU's overseas fees page states that the tuition fee covers tuition for one academic year and health insurance — a cost most Georgian universities charge separately.
  • University-Arranged Accommodation With Meals: EEU offers student accommodation near its campus and prices a shared hostel room at US$2,500 a year, stating that this includes three meals a day and utility bills.
  • NEET Named In The Admission Rules: EEU's admission page lists NEET test results as a required document for MD applicants with Indian citizenship, so the requirement is set out in writing rather than assumed.
  • Documented Visa Support: EEU publishes the D3 immigration visa category, the documents Georgian consular offices ask for, and the specific papers the university issues for a visa application.

East European University fee structure

East European University publishes two different annual tuition figures for the same English-medium MD programme on its own website. Its "Tuition and Fees for Overseas Students" page states "English Medium Program of Medicine (MD) – 5000 USD". Its Medical Doctor Educational Programme (ENG) page states "Tuition Fee for Overseas Students: 6000 USD (per year)". Neither figure is labelled with an academic year.

Both are shown below so you can see the gap. Do not pay against either figure until the university has confirmed in writing which one applies to your intake.

Sources, both on eeu.edu.ge and neither dated with an academic year: the "Tuition and Fees for Overseas Students" page, which lists the English Medium Program of Medicine (MD) at 5000 USD and notes that "Tuition fee listed above covers tuition of one academic year and Health Insurance"; and the Medical Doctor Educational Programme (ENG) page, which states "Tuition Fee for Overseas Students: 6000 USD (per year)". Because the university's own pages disagree, get the figure for your intake in writing before you pay. Payment terms from the fees page: the first academic year is paid in two instalments — half within 5 calendar days after registration and the remainder within 5 calendar days after the visa procedure is completed — and in later years the fee is due before 1 September. Accommodation is charged separately at US$2,500 a year for a shared room, which the university says includes three meals a day and utility bills; EEU puts living costs at around US$2,000–3,000 a year. Excluded from tuition: accommodation and meals, travel, document translation and legalisation, consular fees and personal expenses. The university prices the programme in US dollars and publishes no rupee figure, so any INR amount is approximate and moves with the exchange rate.

  • 1st Year: US$5,000–6,000 — confirm in writing — hostel US$2,500 / year (shared room)
  • 2nd Year: US$5,000–6,000 — confirm in writing — hostel US$2,500 / year (shared room)
  • 3rd Year: US$5,000–6,000 — confirm in writing — hostel US$2,500 / year (shared room)
  • 4th Year: US$5,000–6,000 — confirm in writing — hostel US$2,500 / year (shared room)
  • 5th Year: US$5,000–6,000 — confirm in writing — hostel US$2,500 / year (shared room)
  • 6th Year: US$5,000–6,000 — confirm in writing — hostel US$2,500 / year (shared room)

Eligibility criteria

What EEU's MD programme page and admission page set out for applicants who enter without Georgia's Unified National Examinations — the route international applicants use:

  • School Qualification: A high school certificate with grades (12th grade); the programme page requires a full general education certificate or the equivalent
  • English Language: Applicants entering without the Unified National Examinations must certify English proficiency at ALTE B2 level under EEU's language competence rules. If you have not taken a language test, EEU states you will be expected to take the university's own language test
  • NEET Exam: EEU's admission page requires NEET test results from MD applicants with Indian citizenship
  • Enrolment window: EEU states that enrolment on the MD programme can be done twice a year, within the timeframes set by the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia
  • Age: EEU does not publish a minimum age. Under Indian NEET rules you must be 17 by 31 December of the admission year

Admission process 2026

EEU asks applicants to send documents by post or email with a completed application form, and confirms receipt from the admission office. Questions go to the Department of International Relations at international@eeu.edu.ge.

  • Complete EEU's application form and enclose all the required documents, then send them by post or email to the admission office; you will receive a confirmation letter.
  • If you do not hold an English language certificate, sit the language test the university provides.
  • EEU processes the file and issues the acceptance and invitation documents; recognition and enrolment run through the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia.
  • Pay the first instalment — half the first-year tuition within 5 calendar days after registration, the remainder within 5 calendar days after the visa procedure is completed.
  • Apply for the Georgian D3 category immigration visa at a Georgian embassy or consular office, using the invitation letter, acceptance letter, notice of student status and copies of the Ministry and Rector's orders that EEU issues. Nationals of some countries may enter without a visa — check geoconsul.gov.ge.
  • Travel to Tbilisi (EEU offers an airport transfer on arrival), take up your accommodation, and apply for a residence permit before your legal stay expires — the application must be made 40 calendar days before that date.

Documents required

The documents EEU's admission page lists:

  • Copies of all pages of the citizenship document (passport)
  • High school certificate with grades (12th grade), for undergraduate applicants
  • English language certificate, if applicable — otherwise you sit EEU's own language test
  • NEET test results — required for MD applicants with Indian citizenship
  • Completed EEU application form
  • Health insurance document (EEU states tuition covers health insurance — confirm what your policy is)
  • For the visa application: visa application form, passport, receipt of consular fee payment, ICAO-standard photo, document proving purpose of travel, proof of sufficient financial means, proof of accommodation, and travel and health insurance

Hostel & accommodation

EEU is unusual among Georgian universities in publishing an accommodation price. It states that the university offers student accommodation near the campus and supports students in finding housing in Tbilisi.

  • Cost: US$2,500 per year for a shared room in the hostel, which EEU states includes three meals a day and utility bills
  • Location: Accommodation near the university campus; EEU also lists nearby hotels and hostels (White House Hotel, Golden Palace Hotel, Rogalux Hotel, Like Hostel, Colosseo Hostel)
  • Arrival: EEU offers a transport service from Tbilisi International Airport to the student's accommodation
  • Living costs: EEU puts living costs in Georgia at around US$2,000–3,000 per year, covering ground transport, food and bills
  • Meals: Three meals a day are included in the quoted hostel price; EEU does not describe the menu, so ask in writing whether Indian food is catered for

Clinical training

EEU's MD programme aims, in the university's own words, to build clinical competence alongside biomedical knowledge:

  • The programme aims to develop the ability to consult a patient, assess a clinical case, schedule examinations, make a differential diagnosis, discuss a disease management plan, provide first aid and resuscitation in emergencies, prescribe medication and perform practical procedures.
  • It aims to develop effective communication in a medical context and the application of ethical and legal principles in medical practice.
  • It aims to develop the application of evidence-based principles and the use of information technology in a medical context.
  • The Faculty of Healthcare Sciences lists a Clinical and Practical Skills Development Center and clinical bases on its own pages.
  • Ask the faculty in writing which clinical bases your cohort rotates through, and whether the final year includes a 12-month internship at the same institution — the point the Indian regulations turn on.

Recognition & accreditation

The National Medical Commission states that it "does not endorse any list of Foreign Medical Institutions/ Universities for MBBS or equivalent course", so no foreign medical university is "NMC approved". What decides your eligibility to register in India is the course you take. Verify the following directly with the university, in writing:

  • EEU's own programme page gives the Medical Doctor Educational Programme (ENG) a Programme Status of "Accredited" — ask for the accreditation decision and its expiry date, and check it against Georgia's National Center for Educational Quality Enhancement (eqe.ge).
  • EEU states that it obtained authorization from the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia in 2012, and that recognition and enrolment of foreign students run through that Ministry.
  • Check the course against the NMC's Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate (FMGL) Regulations, 2021 — at least 54 months of study, a 12-month internship at the same institution, and English as the medium of instruction throughout.
  • Confirm the university is registered with the body competent to grant a licence to practise medicine in its own country, on the same terms as that country's own graduates.
  • Look the university up yourself in the World Directory of Medical Schools (wdoms.org). A listing records that a school exists — it is not an accreditation, a recognition or an endorsement.

Career opportunities

What the degree leads to — check each route with the regulator concerned, not with an agent:

  • To register in India you must meet the NMC's FMGL Regulations, 2021, clear the Indian screening examination and complete a further 12 months of supervised internship in India.
  • Licensing routes elsewhere (for example the USMLE in the United States or UKMLA/PLAB in the United Kingdom) each set their own eligibility conditions for graduates of foreign medical schools; verify them with the relevant regulator.
  • EEU states its MD programme aims to prepare graduates to work effectively in the healthcare system and to continue in a global context; postgraduate training places are competitive and are not guaranteed by the degree.

Student life

Practical notes for international students at EEU:

  • EEU has two Tbilisi campuses: Campus 1 at 6 I. Enukidze Street and Campus 2 at 1 T. Putkaradze Street.
  • The Department of International Relations (international@eeu.edu.ge) is the contact point for international applicants and students.
  • EEU states that students can take part in exchange programmes, winter and summer schools, conferences and internships.
  • Tbilisi is a capital city with public transport, affordable food and lower living costs than most European capitals; EEU puts living costs at US$2,000–3,000 a year.

East European University (EEU Georgia) — frequently asked questions

What is the MD (MBBS) tuition fee at East European University?

EEU publishes two different figures on its own website: its "Tuition and Fees for Overseas Students" page lists the English Medium Program of Medicine (MD) at 5000 USD, while its MD programme page states "Tuition Fee for Overseas Students: 6000 USD (per year)". Neither is labelled with an academic year, so ask EEU in writing which figure applies to your intake before you pay anything.

What does the EEU tuition fee include and exclude?

EEU's fees page states that the tuition fee covers tuition for one academic year and health insurance. Excluded: accommodation and meals (US$2,500 a year for a shared room with three meals a day and utilities), travel, document translation and legalisation, consular fees and personal expenses. EEU puts living costs at around US$2,000–3,000 a year.

Does EEU award an MBBS or an MD degree?

An MD. EEU's programme is the Medical Doctor Educational Programme (ENG), awarding a Medical Doctor (MD) — Georgia's equivalent of an MBBS — over 6 academic years, 12 semesters and a minimum of 360 ECTS credits. Indian students still have to meet the NMC's requirements for foreign medical graduates to practise in India.

What is the admission process at EEU?

Send the completed application form with all required documents to the admission office by post or email and wait for the confirmation letter. If you have no English certificate you take EEU's own language test. EEU then processes recognition and enrolment through the Ministry of Education, issues your acceptance and invitation documents, and you pay the first instalment, apply for the D3 visa and travel to Tbilisi.

What documents does EEU ask for?

Copies of all pages of your citizenship document, a high school certificate with grades (12th grade), an English language certificate if you have one, and — for MD applicants with Indian citizenship — NEET test results. For the visa you additionally need the consular documents listed on EEU's visa page, including proof of funds, proof of accommodation and insurance.

Is NEET mandatory for Indian students at EEU?

Yes. EEU's admission page explicitly lists "NEET test results (for MD students with Indian citizenship)" among the required documents, and NEET-UG is separately required under NMC rules before an Indian student can register to practise in India with a foreign medical degree.

Do I need IELTS or TOEFL for the EEU MD programme?

Applicants entering without Georgia's Unified National Examinations must certify English at ALTE B2 level under EEU's language competence rules. If you have taken IELTS, TOEFL, a Cambridge certificate or another internationally recognised test, submit it; if not, EEU states you will be expected to take the university's own language test.

How long is the programme and how many intakes are there?

Six academic years, 12 semesters and a minimum of 360 ECTS credits, taught in English. EEU states that enrolment on the MD programme can be done twice a year, within the timeframes set by the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia — so ask for the dates that apply to your intake.

Does EEU provide accommodation, and what does it cost?

Yes. EEU states that it offers student accommodation near the university campus and prices a shared room in the hostel at US$2,500 a year, including three meals a day and utility bills. It also lists nearby hotels and hostels and offers a transport service from Tbilisi International Airport to the student's accommodation.

Which Georgian visa do I need for EEU, and what happens after I arrive?

EEU states that international students should apply for a D3 category immigration visa — the category for people coming to Georgia to study at authorized educational institutions — at a Georgian embassy or consular office. Some nationalities may enter without a visa. Once in Georgia you must apply for a residence permit, 40 calendar days before your legal stay expires.
