Kyiv Medical University (KMU) — Fees, Poland Campus & Admission

Kyiv Medical University (KMU) is a private medical university in Kyiv that has done something no other Ukrainian medical university has: after the full-scale invasion it partially relocated its students and staff to Poland and now runs an officially registered branch, the KMU Polish Campus, in the Katowice agglomeration. That is the first thing an Indian applicant needs to understand, because KMU publishes two separate fee schedules for foreigners in 2026-2027 — US$4,000 a year for English-medium Medicine in Kyiv, and EUR 6,000 a year for the same programme in Poland. Where you would actually study, and under which schedule you would be billed, is the question to settle in writing before you pay anything.

KMU's Kyiv address is 2 Boryspilska Street, Kyiv 02099; its International Faculty is in office 146 at the same address (invites@kmu.edu.ua). It was previously known as Kyiv Medical University of UAFM.

Course structure, recognition and admission requirements are set by the university and by the regulator in its own country, and should be confirmed in writing for your intake year before you apply.

Why choose Kyiv Medical University OF UAFM?

What KMU documents on its own site, and what it leaves open:

  • A branch campus inside the EU: KMU states that it is the only Ukrainian university to have partially relocated its student and teaching community to Poland, through an officially registered branch in the Katowice agglomeration, with the main campus at 5 Zawiszy Czarnego Street, Katowice and an academic building at 120 Wroclawska Street, Bytom.
  • Published fee schedules, in writing, for both campuses: Tuition for 2026-2027 was set by order No. 83 of 31 March 2026 and increased by the officially published 2025 inflation rate of 8.0%. Separate schedules cover Ukrainian citizens and foreign citizens, in Kyiv and at the Polish Campus.
  • A published dormitory tariff: KMU publishes the Kyiv dormitory rate per room type and per month, in hryvnia — not a vague annual range.
  • The degree is a Ukrainian Master's, wherever you sit it: Both schedules describe I2/222 Medicine as a second (Master's) level programme of 5 years 10 months from complete secondary education. The internship is a separate postgraduate stage in Ukraine.
  • What is not settled: KMU's English admission-requirements page still carries dates from 2020, so treat it as out of date. The site does not state whether Indian students are placed in Kyiv or in Poland, how clinical rotations are split between the two, or how the postgraduate internship is arranged. Get all of this in writing.
  • Course structure, recognition and admission requirements: These are set by the university and by the regulator in its own country, and should be confirmed in writing for your intake year before you apply.

MBBS course overview

KMU's foreign-student fee schedules cover three Master's-level specialties: I1/221 Dentistry, I2/222 Medicine and I8/226 Pharmacy, taught in English or in Ukrainian.

I2/222 Medicine entered on the basis of complete general secondary education runs 5 years 10 months, full-time. In Ukraine the internship is a separate postgraduate stage, which matters for the NMC's expectation of a 12-month internship at the same institution.

  • Degree: Master's degree, specialty I2/222 Medicine, educational programme “Medicine”
  • Duration: 5 years 10 months from complete general secondary education (shorter entry routes exist from NQF Level 5/6 nursing qualifications)
  • Medium of instruction: English or Ukrainian — priced separately
  • Intake: KMU's published admission-requirements page describes a winter and a summer session but still carries 2020 dates. Confirm the current intake dates with the International Faculty before you plan anything.

Courses offered

  • I2/222 Medicine (Master's) — 5 years 10 months
  • I1/221 Dentistry (Master's) — 4 years 10 months
  • I8/226 Pharmacy, industrial pharmacy (Master's) — 4 years 10 months

Kyiv Medical University OF UAFM fee structure

KMU publishes two different schedules for foreign citizens in 2026-2027. Which one applies depends on where you are enrolled:

Source: kmu.edu.ua — “Tuition Fees for Foreign Citizens and Stateless Persons Applying for Admission, Reinstatement, or Transfer to Kyiv Medical University for the 2026-2027 Academic Year” and the equivalent schedule for Kyiv Medical University (KMU Polish Campus), both linked from the university's Payment page, together with its notice that tuition for 2026-2027 was set by Order No. 83 of 31 March 2026 and increased by the officially established 2025 inflation rate of 8.0%. English-taught I2/222 Medicine entered on complete general secondary education (5 years 10 months) is US$4,000 per academic year and US$24,000 for the whole period in Kyiv, and EUR 6,000 per academic year and EUR 36,000 for the whole period at the Polish Campus; the Ukrainian-taught version in Kyiv is US$2,800 a year and US$16,800 in total. The Kyiv dormitory tariff published on the same page is UAH 2,800 per month for a 4-bed room, UAH 3,800 for a 2-bed luxe room and UAH 4,400 for a two-room luxe apartment, at student rates. Tuition is payable annually or per semester, no later than 10 calendar days before the academic year or semester begins, and KMU warns that international bank charges must be paid separately or you will be left in debt. Not included: medical insurance, temporary residence permit and registration costs, meals, travel, translation and legalisation of documents, and the invitation-letter charge. Confirm in writing which campus and which schedule apply to you before you pay.

  • Kyiv campus, English-medium Medicine, 1st year (2026-27): US$4,000
  • Kyiv campus, years 2-6: US$4,000 per year (US$24,000 total)
  • Kyiv campus, Ukrainian-medium Medicine: US$2,800 per year (US$16,800 total)
  • KMU Polish Campus, English-medium Medicine, 1st year (2026-27): EUR 6,000
  • KMU Polish Campus, years 2-6: EUR 6,000 per year (EUR 36,000 total)
  • Dormitory, Kyiv (4-bed room, student rate): UAH 2,800 per month — hostel UAH 2,800/month

Eligibility criteria

Two sets of rules apply — KMU's, and India's. You must satisfy both.

  • KMU: NEET (Indian applicants): KMU's published application procedure lists a “National Eligibility Entrance Test – NEET quality certificate (applicable for Indian nationals only)” among the documents required to apply for an invitation letter.
  • KMU: prior education: A school certificate with academic records of all subjects, submitted in original and copy on arrival, translated into Ukrainian and legalised.
  • KMU: entrance tests: Two written tests taken after arrival — in the language of instruction (English or Ukrainian) and in chemistry.
  • India (NMC): NEET-UG: A valid NEET-UG qualifying score is required for an Indian student to be eligible to register in India after a foreign medical degree.
  • India (NMC): FMGL Regulations, 2021: At least 54 months of study, a 12-month internship at the same institution and English as the medium of instruction throughout, then the screening examination and a further 12 months of supervised internship in India.
  • India (NMC): studying at a branch campus: If you would be taught at the KMU Polish Campus rather than in Kyiv, ask the NMC's position in writing before you commit — a Ukrainian degree delivered at a branch in another country raises questions the NMC's regulations do not obviously answer.

Admission process 2026

KMU's published procedure (note that its English admission-requirements page still carries 2020 dates, so confirm every date with the International Faculty):

  • Apply for an invitation letter through KMU's application form, sending scans of the first page of your passport, your school certificate with academic records of all subjects, a signed consent to personal data processing, an application addressed to the rector, and — for Indian nationals — the NEET certificate.
  • KMU's International Faculty reviews the file and decides whether to issue an invitation letter. There is a separate charge for the invitation.
  • Apply for a Ukrainian type “D” visa at a Ukrainian diplomatic or consular mission in your country of residence.
  • Travel to Ukraine and report to the International Faculty in person at 2 Boryspilska Street, office 146.
  • Submit the originals: school certificate with academic records, a medical certificate issued by the health department in your country not more than two months before arrival, the original invitation letter, passport with the Ukrainian visa, and 12 matte photographs 3.5 x 4.5 cm. Documents must be translated into Ukrainian and legalised.
  • Sit the two written entrance tests — language of instruction and chemistry — and sign the contract for educational services with the university.
  • Pay tuition, annually or per semester, no later than 10 calendar days before the academic year or semester starts.
  • Before any of this: ask in writing whether your place would be in Kyiv or at the Polish Campus, because the fee, the currency and the country are all different.

Documents required

From KMU's published application procedure:

  • First page of the passport (scan for the invitation; original and copy on arrival)
  • School certificate with academic records of all subjects (scan, then original and copy)
  • Consent to personal data collection and processing (KMU form)
  • Application addressed to the rector (KMU form)
  • NEET certificate — Indian nationals only
  • Original invitation letter from KMU
  • Medical certificate issued by the health department in your country at least two months before arrival
  • 12 photographs, 3.5 x 4.5 cm, matte
  • Ukrainian type “D” student visa in the passport

Hostel & accommodation

KMU publishes a Kyiv dormitory tariff by room type. It does not publish an equivalent public tariff for student housing at the Polish Campus, so ask for that separately if you would be placed in Poland.

  • Kyiv — 4-bed room: UAH 2,800 per month at the student rate (UAH 250 per day).
  • Kyiv — 2-bed luxe room: UAH 3,800 per month at the student rate (UAH 300 per day).
  • Kyiv — two-room luxe apartment: UAH 4,400 per month at the student rate (UAH 350 per day).
  • Poland — student housing: KMU lists Students' Housing No. 1 at 17 Raclawicka Street, Bytom and a second housing block at 14 A. Frycza-Modrzewskiego Street, Bytom (described as under preparation). Costs are not published on the Payment page — request them in writing.
  • Meals: Not included in any published figure. Confirm separately.
  • Availability: A place is not guaranteed by the tariff. Ask for written confirmation of allocation before you travel.

Clinical training

KMU teaches clinically in Kyiv and, through the Polish Campus, in Silesia. Its Polish Campus pages name the partner hospitals; its Kyiv clinical arrangements are not described in comparable detail on the public site.

  • Poland: KMU lists partner hospitals including Szpital nr 2 w Myslowicach, Wojewodzki Szpital nr 1 and nr 4 w Bytomiu, Wojewodzkie Pogotowie Ratunkowe w Katowicach, Rejonowe Pogotowie Ratunkowe w Sosnowcu, Szpital nr 1 w Siemianowicach Slaskich and Sosnowiecki Szpital Miejski, plus named dental clinics.
  • Kyiv: KMU runs the “Universitetskiy” Dental Centre and lists training bases, but does not publish a current statement on how hospital rotations are organised under war-time conditions.
  • Ask in writing where your clinical rotations would take place in each year of the course, and whether any of them would be split between Ukraine and Poland.
  • Ask how the postgraduate internship would be arranged, in which country, and how it would be certified against the NMC's expectation of a 12-month internship at the same institution.
  • Ask how much of the course is currently delivered online, and read the NMC's current notices on compensating online study at nmc.org.in.

Recognition & accreditation

The National Medical Commission states that it “does not endorse any list of Foreign Medical Institutions/ Universities for MBBS or equivalent course”, so no foreign medical university is “NMC approved”. What decides your eligibility to register in India is the course you take. Verify the following directly with the university, in writing:

  • KMU is a registered Ukrainian private higher educational establishment (state register number 16478809) and states that its Polish Campus is an officially registered branch in the Republic of Poland.
  • Check the course against the NMC's Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate (FMGL) Regulations, 2021 — at least 54 months of study, a 12-month internship at the same institution, and English as the medium of instruction throughout.
  • If any part of the course would be delivered at the Polish Campus, get the NMC's position on that in writing before you pay. Do not rely on an agent's assurance.
  • Ask in writing whether any part of your course would be delivered online, and read the NMC's current public notices on compensating online study at nmc.org.in.
  • Look the university up yourself in the World Directory of Medical Schools (wdoms.org). A listing records that a school exists — it is not an accreditation, a recognition or an endorsement.

Career opportunities

A Ukrainian Master's degree in Medicine does not by itself let you practise anywhere. Each country runs its own licensing route:

  • India: the NMC screening examination plus a further 12 months of supervised internship in India, provided your course meets the FMGL Regulations, 2021.
  • Other countries: USMLE (USA), PLAB (UK), AMC (Australia) and equivalent examinations each set their own eligibility rules — check them with the regulator, not with a university or an agent.

Student life

Practicalities that matter more than campus life right now:

  • KMU's own site carries a “Safety rules during martial law” page for students — read it before you decide.
  • Ukrainian airspace is closed to civil aviation. EASA's Conflict Zone Information Bulletin CZIB-2022-01R14, revised 24 July 2026, advises operators not to operate in Ukrainian airspace, including landings and departures, until 31 January 2027 unless reviewed earlier. Kyiv is reached overland.
  • The Polish Campus is in the Katowice agglomeration in Silesia and is reached by ordinary commercial flights — a materially different proposition from Kyiv, and a different visa (Polish, not Ukrainian).
  • Foreign students in Ukraine must hold medical insurance for the whole period of study and obtain a temporary residence permit.
  • Check your own government's current travel advice for Ukraine before booking anything.

Kyiv Medical University OF UAFM (KMU Kyiv) — frequently asked questions

What is the tuition fee at Kyiv Medical University for 2026-2027?

KMU publishes two schedules for foreign citizens. In Kyiv, English-taught I2/222 Medicine entered on complete secondary education (5 years 10 months) is US$4,000 per academic year and US$24,000 for the whole period; the Ukrainian-taught version is US$2,800 a year and US$16,800 in total. At the KMU Polish Campus the same English-taught programme is EUR 6,000 a year and EUR 36,000 in total. Fees for 2026-2027 were set by order No. 83 of 31 March 2026 and increased by the officially established 2025 inflation rate of 8.0%.

Has Kyiv Medical University moved to Poland?

Partly. KMU states on its own site that it is the only Ukrainian university to have partially relocated its student and teaching community to Poland after the start of the full-scale invasion, through an officially registered branch in the Katowice agglomeration — the KMU Polish Campus, with its main campus at 5 Zawiszy Czarnego Street, Katowice, an academic building at 120 Wroclawska Street, Bytom, a second building in Chorzow described as under preparation, and student housing in Bytom. The Kyiv campus continues to operate and has its own separate fee schedule.

Would I study in Kyiv or in Poland?

KMU does not answer that on its public site, and the answer changes the fee, the currency, the country and the visa. Ask for it in writing, for your intake year and for every year of the course, before you pay a deposit or an invitation fee.

Is NEET compulsory for Indian students at KMU?

Yes. KMU's application procedure lists the NEET certificate among the documents required from Indian nationals to apply for an invitation letter. Separately, a valid NEET-UG qualifying score is what makes you eligible to register in India after a foreign medical degree.

How long is the Medicine course at KMU?

5 years 10 months, full-time, for I2/222 Medicine entered on the basis of complete general secondary education, leading to a Master's degree. Shorter routes of 4 years 10 months exist for applicants entering from NQF Level 5 or 6 nursing qualifications. The internship is a separate postgraduate stage in Ukraine, not the final year of the degree.

What entrance exams does KMU set?

Two written tests taken after arrival — one in the language of instruction (English or Ukrainian) and one in chemistry. KMU's English admission-requirements page still carries 2020 dates, so confirm the current format and dates with the International Faculty at invites@kmu.edu.ua.

How much is the KMU hostel in Kyiv?

The published student rates are UAH 2,800 a month for a 4-bed room, UAH 3,800 for a 2-bed luxe room and UAH 4,400 for a two-room luxe apartment. Housing costs at the Polish Campus are not published on the same page — request them in writing if you would be placed in Poland.

When do I have to pay?

KMU states that tuition is paid annually or per semester, no later than 10 calendar days before the start of the respective academic year or semester. It also warns that banks charge for international transfers and that the commission must be covered separately, otherwise the university receives less and you are recorded as in debt.

Is it practical to study in Kyiv right now?

Ukraine is at war and KMU publishes safety rules for students during martial law. Ukrainian airspace is closed to civil aviation under EASA bulletin CZIB-2022-01R14, currently until 31 January 2027, so Kyiv is reached overland. Ask KMU in writing where teaching and clinical rotations physically take place for your intake, and check your own government's travel advice before booking.

Is Kyiv Medical University approved by the NMC?

No foreign medical university is “NMC approved” — the Commission states that it does not endorse any list of foreign medical institutions. What decides whether you can register in India is whether your course meets the FMGL Regulations, 2021, followed by the screening examination and 12 months of supervised internship in India. If part of your course would be taught at the Polish branch campus, or online, get the NMC's position in writing first and read the current notices at nmc.org.in.
