Why choose Dalian Medical University?
What the university's own admissions pages actually document for international applicants:
- On the Ministry of Education's English-MBBS list: Dalian Medical University (大连医科大学) appears on the Ministry of Education's list of universities commissioned to enrol English-taught undergraduate clinical medicine students from abroad, with 100 places in the 2023-2024 notice — the most recent list published on moe.gov.cn.

- Long-running programme: The university states the English-medium MBBS began in autumn 2004 and that nearly 1,000 students have graduated from it.
- Chinese is built into the course: The programme's stated training requirements include grasping and using basic Chinese and medical Chinese, so Chinese study runs alongside the English-medium teaching rather than being optional.

- Age: Applicants should be between 18 and 25 years old, and mentally and physically healthy.
- Schooling and subjects: Completed senior high school with good marks. Chemistry, physics, biology and English are compulsory subjects; maths is a reference subject in the admission evaluation.

- English proficiency: IELTS or TOEFL is required if English is not your native or official language.
- Financial support: Solid financial support to afford study and living expenses in China; a family financial proof certificate is listed among the documents that improve admission chances.

Admission process 2026
The application procedure from the university's own "How to apply?" section:
- Log on to http://dmu.17gz.org, create an account and activate your email.
- Fill in the online application step by step, upload the required documents and submit.
- Check your email for the university's decision — the university says this generally takes 10 working days.
- Attend an interview with the admission officer when one is required.
- Once you receive the letter of acceptance, pay the full tuition and the application fee to the university's bank account and email the receipt to studyatdmu@aliyun.com to confirm. Spring-intake students must complete the transaction before the end of December so that the visa is not delayed by Chinese New Year.
- The university issues the admission letter and the visa form (JW202/JW201) once the money is acknowledged, and posts the package by EMS or FedEx.
- Apply for the X1 student visa at a Chinese embassy or consulate, then travel to Dalian for document verification and hostel check-in.
Documents required
Basic documents the university asks for, plus the extras it says improve your chances:
- Passport and visa page
- Passport-size photograph
- Senior high school certificate, A Level marks, national exam certificate or an equivalent mark sheet
- IELTS or TOEFL result if English is not your native or official language
- Declaration letter
- Optional but helpful: family financial proof certificate, medical check-up report, merit certificates and a recommendation letter
- Guardian letter attested by the Chinese embassy, if you are over 17 but under 18 when the course starts
Hostel & accommodation
What the university publishes about accommodation:
- Room type and fee: A double room in dormitory 19 costs RMB 10,000 per year, as listed in the university's own hostel fee table.
- Payment: Hostel fees are paid to the university in Chinese yuan; the fee table quotes one room type only, so ask whether other room types are available for your intake.
- What to confirm: Ask the International Education College in writing what the room includes, what utilities cost, and whether cooking or catering facilities are provided, rather than relying on agents' descriptions.
Clinical training
What the university states about clinical training:
- The six-year programme includes five semesters of clinical courses and internship placements and a one-year internship in the university's affiliated teaching hospitals.
- The stated training goal is that graduates can practise effectively under the guidance of a senior doctor, with the programme's training requirements including basic Chinese and medical Chinese for communication.
- Ask in writing which affiliated hospitals your cohort will rotate through, and in which language ward teaching and patient communication take place.
Recognition & accreditation
The National Medical Commission states that it "does not endorse any list of Foreign Medical Institutions/ Universities for MBBS or equivalent course", so no foreign medical university is "NMC approved". What decides your eligibility to register in India is the course you take. Verify the following directly with the university, in writing:
- Dalian Medical University (大连医科大学) appears on the Ministry of Education's list of universities commissioned to enrol English-taught undergraduate clinical medicine students from abroad, with 100 places in the 2023-2024 notice (教外厅函〔2023〕10号, moe.gov.cn). The Ministry updates this list each year — ask the university for written confirmation that it is on the list for your intake year.
- The same notice states that universities not on the list may not enrol English-taught undergraduate clinical medicine students from abroad and may not issue an English-language degree certificate bearing "MBBS".
- Check the course against the NMC's Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate (FMGL) Regulations, 2021 — at least 54 months of study, a 12-month internship at the same institution, and English as the medium of instruction throughout.
- Confirm the university is registered with the body competent to grant a licence to practise medicine in its own country, on the same terms as that country's own graduates.
- Look the university up yourself in the World Directory of Medical Schools (wdoms.org). A listing records that a school exists — it is not an accreditation, a recognition or an endorsement.

Is NEET required for Indian students at Dalian Medical University?
DMU publishes its India entry route as above 70% in 10+2 or a NEET score above 250, so NEET is one accepted basis for admission. What are the eligibility criteria for MBBS at DMU?
You must be between 18 and 25, mentally and physically healthy, and have completed senior high school with good marks. Is the DMU MBBS taught in English, and do I need Chinese?
