Dnipro State Medical University (DSMU) — Fees & Admission
Dnipro State Medical University (DSMU) is a state medical university at 9 Volodymyra Vernadskoho Street in Dnipro, south-eastern Ukraine. It publishes the one document that matters most to an applicant: the rector's signed order No. 77-од of 22 May 2026, setting the cost of study for foreign citizens in 2026-2027 at US$4,245 an academic year for English-medium Medicine, payable in two semester instalments of US$2,122.50, across six academic years from 2026-27 to 2031-32. The university also states that the full Master of Medicine course runs 6 years excluding the internship, which in Ukraine is a separate postgraduate stage. Everything else on this page is either from DSMU's own documents or flagged as something you must confirm in writing. Ukraine is at war and Dnipro is close to the fighting.
The university's own site and its 2026 tuition order use the name Dnipro State Medical University (Дніпровський державний медичний університет). Older brochures and agent sites still call it Dnipropetrovsk State Medical Academy — check that anything you are asked to sign names the university as it is registered today.
Course structure, recognition and admission requirements are set by the university and by the regulator in its own country, and should be confirmed in writing for your intake year before you apply.

Why choose Dnipro State Medical University?
What DSMU actually documents, and what it does not:
- A signed tuition order for the coming year, year by year: Order No. 77-од of 22 May 2026 does not just give one figure — it sets the fee for each academic year from 2026-27 through to 2031-32, and splits it into two semester payments. That is unusually clear for a Ukrainian university.
- Both currencies are covered: DSMU publishes separate schedules for foreign citizens in hryvnia and in US dollars, the dollar one applying where tuition is paid from abroad into the university's currency account.
- The degree length is stated by the university: DSMU's own programme page states that the full term of study for the Master of Medicine, excluding internship, is 6 years, and that admission to I2 Medicine is full-time only.
- The internship is a separate stage, and the length depends on the specialty: DSMU lists internship durations of 1 to 3 years by specialty after the Master's degree. That is a Ukrainian postgraduate stage, not the sixth year of the degree — and it is what the NMC's requirement for a 12-month internship at the same institution has to be matched against.
- Dnipro's location is a serious consideration: Dnipro is in south-eastern Ukraine, closer to the front than Lviv or Vinnytsia. DSMU does not publish a statement on how teaching is organised under war-time conditions. Ask, in writing, before you pay anything.
- Course structure, recognition and admission requirements: These are set by the university and by the regulator in its own country, and should be confirmed in writing for your intake year before you apply.

Dnipro State Medical University fee structure
These figures come from DSMU's own signed order for the 2026-2027 academic year, not from an agency price list:
Source: DSMU rector's order No. 77-од of 22 May 2026, “On the cost of study for foreign citizens in the 2026-2027 academic year”, signed by rector Prof. Tetiana Pertseva, in force from 1 September 2026, annex 1, published through the Admissions Committee site vstup.dmu.edu.ua. This is the schedule that applies where tuition is paid from abroad into the university's foreign-currency account; DSMU publishes a separate hryvnia schedule for payment inside Ukraine. English-medium Medicine is US$4,245 per academic year, payable as two semester instalments of US$2,122.50, for each of the six academic years 2026-27 to 2031-32 — US$25,470 across the course at the rates in this order. Ukrainian-medium Medicine is US$3,739 per year. For comparison, the same order prices English-medium Dentistry at US$4,245 in year 1 and US$4,783 in years 2-5, English-medium Pharmacy at US$3,436 a year, and the preparatory department at US$2,403 a year. A student arriving for the second semester pays half the annual amount (US$2,122.50 for English-medium Medicine). Not included: accommodation, meals, medical insurance, temporary residence permit and registration, travel, and translation or legalisation of documents. DSMU links a separate “cost of accommodation in hostels” file from its admissions site, but it was not publicly retrievable at the time of writing — ask the Admissions Committee for the hostel tariff in writing before you pay.
- 1st year (2026-27), English-medium Medicine: US$4,245 (2 x US$2,122.50)
- 2nd year (2027-28): US$4,245
- 3rd year (2028-29): US$4,245
- 4th year (2029-30): US$4,245
- 5th year (2030-31): US$4,245
- 6th year (2031-32): US$4,245
Eligibility criteria
DSMU does not publish a dedicated English-language eligibility page for foreign applicants, so treat the following as the framework and get the specifics from the Admissions Committee in writing.
- DSMU: prior education: A complete general secondary education document, legalised or apostilled in the issuing country and translated into Ukrainian with notarised translation, as required of all foreign applicants to Ukrainian universities.
- DSMU: mode of study: I2 Medicine is admitted full-time (денна) only, on the basis of complete general secondary education.
- DSMU: entrance requirements: Ask the Admissions Committee in writing which entrance examinations apply to foreign applicants for your intake, and in which language.
- India (NMC): NEET-UG: A valid NEET-UG qualifying score is required for an Indian student to be eligible to register in India after a foreign medical degree. Ukrainian universities also apply the Ministry of Education and Science guidance that Indian applicants present a NEET certificate.
- India (NMC): FMGL Regulations, 2021: At least 54 months of study, a 12-month internship at the same institution and English as the medium of instruction throughout, then the screening examination and a further 12 months of supervised internship in India.
- India (NMC): online study: The NMC has published notices on foreign medical graduates who studied online, including one dated 18 March 2026 on compensating online study with physical onsite training at the foreign institution. Read the current notices at nmc.org.in before you apply.
Admission process 2026
Admission of foreigners to any Ukrainian university runs through the Ministry of Education and Science invitation system. DSMU does not publish a detailed English-language procedure, so confirm each step with the Admissions Committee:
- Contact the DSMU Admissions Committee (24 D. Yavornytskoho Ave, Dnipro; +38 056 371-07-78) and ask for the current written procedure for foreign applicants for your intake.
- Send copies of your passport and your school-leaving document with grades for a preliminary decision.
- Apply for an electronic invitation to study through Ukraine's official portal apply.studyinukraine.gov.ua. The invitation is valid for up to six months and is the basis for a Ukrainian student visa.
- Apply for the visa at a Ukrainian diplomatic mission.
- Have your education documents legalised or apostilled in the issuing country and translated into Ukrainian with notarised translation.
- Sit any entrance examinations DSMU sets, sign the individual contract for study, and pay the first semester under the published order.
- Register with the State Migration Service for a temporary residence permit, and take out medical insurance for the whole period of study as Ukrainian law requires.
- Before any payment, ask in writing where teaching and clinical rotations physically take place, and how much of the course is delivered online.
Documents required
The standard file for a foreign applicant to a Ukrainian medical university. Confirm DSMU's exact list with the Admissions Committee:
- Passport (copy for the invitation; original presented on arrival)
- School-leaving certificate and its appendix showing subjects and grades — legalised or apostilled, with notarised Ukrainian translation
- NEET scorecard (Indian applicants)
- Electronic invitation to study issued through the Ministry of Education and Science system
- Ukrainian student visa
- Medical certificate of health status, issued shortly before arrival
- Medical insurance policy covering the whole period of study
- Passport-size photographs (confirm the number and size with the Admissions Committee)
- Academic transcript, if transferring or resuming study
Hostel & accommodation
DSMU links a “cost of accommodation in hostels” file from its admissions site, but it was not publicly retrievable at the time of writing, and the university publishes no English-language description of hostel conditions for foreign students.
- Cost: Not verifiable from a public DSMU document. Ask the Admissions Committee for the hostel tariff in writing, per month and per year, before you pay anything. Treat any figure quoted by a consultancy as unverified.
- Room type and availability: Ask which hostel, how many students to a room, and whether a place is guaranteed for your intake — and get it in the contract.
- Meals: Not covered by the tuition order. Confirm separately.
- Safety: Ask what shelter provision the hostel has and what happens during air-raid alerts. Dnipro is in south-eastern Ukraine, closer to the fighting than the western cities.
Clinical training
DSMU runs a University Hospital and teaches on clinical bases in Dnipro. It does not publish a current statement on how clinical teaching is organised under war-time conditions, so put the following in writing before you commit:
- Which hospitals and clinical bases your rotations would take place in, and whether they are operating normally.
- How much of the course is currently delivered in person and how much online or blended — and whether any online delivery would later need to be compensated by physical onsite training for NMC purposes.
- How the postgraduate internship would be arranged for a foreign graduate. DSMU lists internships of 3 years for surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology and anaesthesiology, 2 years for internal medicine, family medicine, paediatrics and several others, 1.5 years for laboratory diagnostics and radiology and 1 year for epidemiology — ask how that maps onto the NMC's expectation of a 12-month internship at the same institution.
- What happens to teaching and examinations during air-raid alerts and power interruptions.
Recognition & accreditation
The National Medical Commission states that it “does not endorse any list of Foreign Medical Institutions/ Universities for MBBS or equivalent course”, so no foreign medical university is “NMC approved”. What decides your eligibility to register in India is the course you take. Verify the following directly with the university, in writing:
- DSMU is a state university under Ukraine's Ministry of Health and is listed in Ukraine's Unified State Electronic Database on Education (EDEBO) — the university links its own EDEBO entry from its admissions site, so you can check it yourself.
- Check the course against the NMC's Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate (FMGL) Regulations, 2021 — at least 54 months of study, a 12-month internship at the same institution, and English as the medium of instruction throughout.
- Ask in writing whether any part of your course would be delivered online, and read the NMC's current public notices on compensating online study at nmc.org.in.
- Confirm the university is registered with the body competent to grant a licence to practise medicine in its own country, on the same terms as that country's own graduates.
- Look the university up yourself in the World Directory of Medical Schools (wdoms.org). A listing records that a school exists — it is not an accreditation, a recognition or an endorsement.
Career opportunities
A Ukrainian Master's degree in Medicine does not by itself let you practise anywhere. Each country runs its own licensing route:
- India: the NMC screening examination plus a further 12 months of supervised internship in India, provided your course meets the FMGL Regulations, 2021.
- Other countries: USMLE (USA), PLAB (UK), AMC (Australia) and equivalent examinations each set their own eligibility rules — check them with the regulator, not with a university or an agent.
Student life
Practicalities that matter more than campus life right now:
- Ukrainian airspace is closed to civil aviation, including the Dnipro flight information region. EASA's Conflict Zone Information Bulletin CZIB-2022-01R14, revised 24 July 2026, advises operators not to operate in Ukrainian airspace, including landings and departures, until 31 January 2027 unless reviewed earlier. You would travel overland, a long journey from the western border to Dnipro.
- Foreign students must hold medical insurance for the whole period of study under Ukrainian law.
- A temporary residence permit is issued by the State Migration Service on the university's application, with deadlines tied to your visa expiry.
- Check your own government's current travel advice for Ukraine, and for eastern Ukraine specifically, before booking anything.
Dnipro State Medical University (DSMU Dnipro) — frequently asked questions
What is the tuition fee at Dnipro State Medical University for 2026-2027?
Under DSMU's order No. 77-од of 22 May 2026, English-medium Medicine costs US$4,245 per academic year, paid as two semester instalments of US$2,122.50, for each of the six academic years from 2026-27 to 2031-32 — US$25,470 across the course at the rates in that order. Ukrainian-medium Medicine is US$3,739 a year. This schedule applies where tuition is paid from abroad into the university's foreign-currency account; a separate hryvnia schedule applies to payment inside Ukraine.
How long is the Medicine course at DSMU?
DSMU states that the full term of study for the Master of Medicine, excluding internship, is 6 years, and the 2026-2027 tuition order prices six consecutive academic years. Admission to I2 Medicine is full-time only.
Is the internship included in the DSMU degree?
No. In Ukraine the internship (інтернатура) is a separate postgraduate stage entered after the Master's degree. DSMU lists internship lengths of 3 years for surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology and anaesthesiology, 2 years for internal medicine, family medicine, paediatrics and others, 1.5 years for laboratory diagnostics and radiology, and 1 year for epidemiology. Because the NMC expects a 12-month internship at the same institution, ask DSMU in writing how yours would be arranged and certified.
Is NEET compulsory for Indian students at DSMU?
A valid NEET-UG qualifying score is what makes an Indian student eligible to register in India after a foreign medical degree, and Ukrainian universities apply the Ministry of Education and Science guidance that Indian applicants present a NEET certificate. DSMU does not publish a dedicated English-language page on this, so ask the Admissions Committee to confirm its requirement in writing.
What does the DSMU hostel cost?
DSMU links a hostel cost file from its admissions site, but it was not publicly retrievable at the time of writing and the tuition order does not cover accommodation. Ask the Admissions Committee for the hostel tariff in writing before you pay. Any hostel figure you see on a consultancy site should be treated as unverified.
Is it safe and practical to study in Dnipro right now?
Ukraine is at war and Dnipro is in the south-east, closer to the fighting than the western cities. Ukrainian airspace, including the Dnipro flight information region, is closed to civil aviation under EASA bulletin CZIB-2022-01R14, currently until 31 January 2027, so there are no commercial flights and the overland journey from the western border is long. DSMU does not publish a statement on war-time teaching arrangements. Ask in writing where teaching and clinical rotations physically take place and what shelter provision exists, and check your own government's travel advice. Do not treat pre-2022 descriptions of campus life as current.
Does DSMU teach online?
DSMU does not publish a current statement on the balance between in-person and online teaching for foreign students. This matters, because the NMC has published notices on foreign medical graduates who studied online, including one dated 18 March 2026 on compensating online study with physical onsite training at the foreign institution. Ask DSMU in writing for your intake, and read the current notices at nmc.org.in.
Is it called Dnipro State Medical University or Dnipropetrovsk State Medical Academy?
The university's own site and its 2026 tuition order use Dnipro State Medical University (Дніпровський державний медичний університет). Older brochures and many agent sites still use Dnipropetrovsk State Medical Academy or Dnipropetrovsk Medical Academy. Make sure any invitation, contract or receipt you are given names the university as it is registered today.
What happens if I join in the second semester?
The 2026-2027 order states that a student arriving for the second semester pays half the annual amount — US$2,122.50 for English-medium Medicine, US$1,869.50 for Ukrainian-medium Medicine.
Is DSMU approved by the NMC?
No foreign medical university is “NMC approved” — the Commission states that it does not endorse any list of foreign medical institutions. What decides whether you can register in India is whether your course meets the FMGL Regulations, 2021, followed by the screening examination and 12 months of supervised internship in India. Check the current position at nmc.org.in and confirm the course details with DSMU in writing before you apply.
